Rules Governing the Pit
The purpose of the "Pit" is to access a assignable or block scheduled area for Recreation classes, Athletics or outside groups wishing a private training area. This space will be open for Open Recreation when there isn't a group or team scheduled within it.
There are specific guidelines required of all groups who intend to use this space.
* The groups Supervisor must meet with the Weight and Fitness Director, the Strength coach for the University or a representative of the facility to be familiarized with the guidelines established for the "Pit".
* A Head or Assistant coach / teacher / Instructor must be present at all times with the block scheduled group. If they are not, the area will open to general use.
* General operation procedures and safety guidelines need to be enforced with all user groups within this area by their own personnel.
* All users of the weight room need to take a liability tour offered by Campus Recreation. They include the signing of a liability form. If under 18 years of age, there must be a signature from a guardian. The tour takes no more than 10 minutes.
* Their names are then entered in the computer. We can then give them a sticker for their I.D verifying that they are fit and have taken the tour.
* There are large groups that reserve the "Pit " with intentions of utilizing the facility for a very short period. Many of these groups have there own liability coverage. There may be specific groups that will not require the weight room tour but, it is very important that these members be briefed by their supervisors and that they follow the facilities' rules and regulations. If these individuals would like to come back to the facility at any time to workout outside of their group setting, then they must take the liability tour.
* Athletic teams must submit a request for block time to the Weight Room Director to help coordinate scheduling of ICA teams. There is a limit of 50 people maximum for group participation. Teams or groups are encouraged to work together during blocked times.
* Instructors using the "Pit" should use only specific portions that they need. Lesson plans written to use a portion of the "Pit" will help open up space. During peak use hours, this idea of separating the room will become helpful.
* Recreation Supervisors should not enforce regulations on block scheduled groups in the "Pit", instead inform the Director of rules violations so he may handle the problems internally.
